Botanical Brilliance at Ladybird
Well lovelies, where to begin!
Ladybird’s first ever pop up shop closed its doors last Sunday (10th August 2014). What a way to start! Situated in Old Street Station, we made our home underground, which was the perfect place to showcase our wonderful new selection of terrariums, which feel like they come from an exotic cave or grotto – just like Old Street Station, right?! We also brought some delicious colour to the murky depths with gorgeous flower boxes and distinctive artichoke vases, which were all snapped up by busy commuters over the course of the week.
Sitting there all prepped and ready on Monday was like my first day at school. I had the ‘new girl’ in class feeling as well as the apprehension of ‘will my creations be liked’, ‘will they be appreciated’ and (kind of crucially!) ‘will anyone buy them’ was a little daunting and a bit scary (ok very scary!) to say the least. I need not have worried though – despite one poor commuter who couldn’t quite understand where his morning porridge had gone (the previous resident had been keeping him in warming breakfast for a month, poor thing) our pop up went down a complete storm. My fellow retailers were all lovely, helping me out with little tips and tricks for staying warm and holding the fort when I needed a ‘comfort break’, and my terrariums completely sold out by the end of day two.
The colourful flower boxes were refreshed daily as we wanted to make sure there was a new theme each day – and because we sold out every day too! We ended the working week with a fabulous sunshine Friday hit: striking sunflowers, bright yellow calla lilies, divine dahlias and gloriously happy gerberas stopped people in their tracks and I couldn’t make my creations fast enough that morning.
Your response and support for Ladybird has been overwhelming. I would like to thank each and every one of you who popped by, purchased, sent words of encouragement and support and shared my work and news – Time Out listed us as one of the top six pop ups in London that week, which still hasn’t quite sunk in!
I’m truly over the moon and we are already planning to pop up again. Stay tuned for more information coming soon!
